In the past few weeks, some of my readers have asked me: “Do you always need to quit your job if you want to live your purpose?
GREAT QUESTION!
And the answer is real simple. It’s NO. Here’s why.

You can keep your day job AND live your purpose….
Your purpose doesn’t always have to be work-related.
It could very well be that you bring your purpose to life in your spare time or as a side hustle. And it could also very well be that this is enough for you.
Let’s say for example that your purpose is to help children get fit through sports.
You can bring this purpose to life as a sports coach in your spare time. You do this a couple of hours per week, and this brings you joy and a sense of fulfillment.
You can do this alongside your 9 to 5 which you love. Or at least like enough to stay in your job.
So you combine your day job with your side gig as a sports coach.
If this is the case, there is really no reason to quit your day job. If you are happy with the way you bring your purpose to life, then this can perfectly coexist next to your day job.
…but most people don’t want that
But what I often see, is that purpose and work go hand in hand.
Since most people spend a lot of time of their time at work, they want to do work that gives them joy and a sense of meaning.
Some of us find this in their day jobs. Others don’t.
If you feel that your 9 to 5 is not the thing that you’re meant to do in this world, it’ll make sense that you’re gonna wanna leave this job. Your probably gonna wanna find that one thing that does give you joy and makes you feel purposeful.
So, no, you don’t always have to quit your day job in order to find your purpose. But more often then not, it does make sense to do so.
This is what I’ve done. And this is also what most of my clients end up doing.
The traditional route doesn’t guarantee happiness
Maybe you’ve taken the traditional route when it comes to your job and education.
You’ve made the smart choice and went for the save career with good benefits, good growth perspective and, let’s be honest, some social status.
But now that you’re in this job, you realize that it doesn’t make you happy.
You feel stuck and lost. You wonder what the heck you’re meant to do with your life. But you just haven’t figured it out.
Now tell me, if this is how you feel, will having a nice hobby/side hustle be enough to solve this?
You decide!
You are the boss of your own life. You decide how you want to give form to your purpose.
You can do this as a hobby, so you can keep your 9 to 5. Or you find a way to monetize your purpose and you make your purpose your job.
Both are fine.
As long as you make sure that whichever option you choose actually makes you feel good, you can’t go wrong.
