You need to make a decision. Maybe it’s related to work, a relationship, a friendship, or maybe you just need to decide what you want to have for dinner tonight.
But you don’t really know what you want. So you’re looking for a way to know what it is that you want. Or in other words, you want to know how you can decide what you want.
I’ve got you!
In this blog, I’m going to share with you a valuable tip that is going to help you get clear on what it is that you want.

How do you want to feel?
The thing that always helps me the best, when I need to make a decision, but I don’t know what I want, is asking myself “How do I want to feel”?
I don’t focus on the desired outcome, but I focus on how I want to feel as a result of my decision. After I know how I want to feel, I ask myself what decision will make me feel that way.
When your actions are in service of the way that you want to feel, it’s going to be so much easier to decide what you need to do. Let me clarify this with an example.
Hotshot lawyer = stress and anxiety
When I had to choose my career path, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do. I was a teenager back then and I had really no clue!
Instead of focusing on how I wanted to feel in my future, I went for the perfect picture. I thought that being a hotshot lawyer, just like in Suits, would give me the life(style) that I truly desired.
I thought that this was going to make me happy.
Now, looking back, I can see that what I really wanted, was to feel secure, supported and financially stable. I thought that being a lawyer would give me that.
And to some extent that was true.
But if I would have been real honest with myself, I probably also would have known, that being a lawyer would also give me a lot of stress and anxiety. And that was not how I wanted to feel at all.
But I decided to become a lawyer anyway. Even though, I knew that that wouldn’t make me feel good.
If I had focused on how I wanted to feel – secure, supported, financially stable-, I probably would have made other choices.
Test it out!
You can test drive this for yourself too. Think back to a moment where you’ve made a decision that ended up not being the right one.
If you would have focused on how you wanted to feel, instead of the perfect picture, would you have still made the same choice?
How to decide what you want
So whenever you’re faced with a decision and you don’t know what to do, Ask yourself these 2 questions:
- How do I want to feel?
- What decision will actually make me feel that way?
This will make decision making so much easier.
Tune into your intuition
And when you tune in to your intuition, you’ll know which decision will be the right one to go.
Your intuition will know what choice will be fully aligned with what you truly want. So listen to it and trust that it’s right.
